Hardwood Floor Care

Hardwood floor care is not as difficult as many people think. Keeping our precious wood floor in good condition gives off a sense of warmth, grace and refinement that certainly adds value of your home. The longevity and state of your floors depend on how much maintenance it is being given. Of course every type of wood needs it’s own kind of care. There are some basic ways to keep your floors safe.

Your wood floor needs to be kept dry. Clean up any spillage from your floor straight away. Make sure to use clean, dry, and soft rags to use on your floor.

Use area rugs, runners, or mats on entrances and high traffic areas to prevent soil or debris from scratching the floor. If you own rugs or mats and wash them be certain that they are completely dry before placing them back on the wood floor. Failing to do this might cause streaking or staining.

Sun exposure can also be damaging to the health of your floors. The sun can ultimately change the color of your floors! You can prevent this by hanging up some curtains or blinds to limit the amount of sun penetrating your home.

Protect your floor by placing pads under each extremity of your furniture. If you are moving furniture around make sure to lift, not drag it, across the floor.

Ladies keep in mind that wearing high heeled shoes can damage the floor. In fact, walking around your wood floors in shoes, without cleaning them off in a mat first, can bruise the floor because there might be rocks or dirt on the sole of the shoe.

Regular dust moping and sweeping can help extend the life of the floor. Use soft bristled brooms with exploded ends. Vacuum with either special wood or brush attachment only. Damp mop your floor about once a week. Your floor will not be damaged by it's new and the finish has not worn off. You can also use wax to shield your floor. If you are not planning to refinish the floor soon and the finish has already worn off you can wax the floor instead. You can remove the wax by simply damp mopping and reapply afterwards.

Keeping these simple tips will make hardwood floor care easier for you and save you money as well.
